ICO Virtual Performances Series
by Music Director Matthew Kraemer
Welcome to our new virtual performance series which will come to you every Monday and Thursday from now throughout the summer. After many weeks away from the stage during this pandemic, we are anxious to share our music with you. And while it’s not the same as our traditional INTIMATE, CLASSIC and ORIGINAL live programming, we hope this gives you a chance to see something you might have missed or to enjoy a favorite musical moment all over again.
Mondays with Matthew
Beginning May 4th, I hope you’ll join me on Facebook or Instagram every Monday afternoon at 1 pm for “Mondays with Matthew,” a quick preview of our weekly ICO 10 PM radio broadcast on WFYI 90.1 FM. I’ll share a short segment of the program with a little background on what you can expect during that evening’s broadcast.
August 31st Gershwin Debussy Korngold
Mocktails and Masterpieces
Then each Thursday evening at 6 pm, I’ll be back again on our social media channels to host a 20-minute program we’re calling “Mocktails and Masterpieces.” Here, we’ll share a video clip of an ICO performance and I’ll provide some background commentary for context. Some of the segments will be pre-recorded and some will be “live” events with our ICO musicians.
August 6 – Join Matthew Kraemer as he discusses Tabloid Concertos by Franz Waxman and Miklos Rozsa. American Pianists Awards winner Sean Chen will be the featured soloist.
July 27 – Video images from World War II and Eleanor Roosevelt’s simple words pleading for peace are the focus of this week’s Mocktails and Masterpieces. Matthew Kraemer visits with Videographer Mike Halerz to discuss James Aikman’s Peacemakers. We also feature mezzo soprano Kathryn Krasovec..
July 16 – Join Matthew Kraemer as he visits with clarinetist Eli Eban on Thursday’s Mocktails and Masterworks event. Eban, with a distinguished career as an orchestral musician, solo artist and education, serves as Principal Clarinet for the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra. We will also hear excerpts from this 2018 performance of Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto with the ICO on the program.
July 2 Maestro Matthew Kraemer and the ICO’s Acting Principal Flutist Alistair Howlett share stories and music on this week’s Mocktails and Masterworks. You’ll hear lively conversation and Lowell Liebermann‘s “Soliloquy” for solo Flute. We’ve even pulled a special video from the archives!
June 25 Co-hosts Matthew Kraemer and David Murray discuss new music and the collaborative process involved in creating a multi-media production like James Aikman’s “Peacemakers.” This is a great opportunity to hear more about what goes into such a project from both a performer and conductor perspective!
Until We Meet Again…
