Gingrich has been performing as a timpanist and percussionist in orchestras all across the Midwest and Pennsylvania including the Chamber Symphony of Pittsburgh as Guest Principal Timpani and Percussion, the Fox Valley Symphony (WI) as Guest Principal Timpani, and the Canton Symphony Orchestra (OH). Following his move to Pittsburgh, he has performed alongside local contemporary and chamber music ensembles such as The Brass Roots, Kamraton, NAT28, and the Resonance Works Chamber Orchestra. In the summers, Gingrich has participated in the Aspen Music Festival, the Festival Orchestra NAPA and the Blackburn Music Academy at Festival Napa Valley, and the Peninsula Music Festival in Door County, Wisconsin.
Justin has shared the stage with virtuosic musicians such as Itzhak Perlman, Lucas Meachum, Midori, and the singer-songwriter Seal. He’s also had the honor to work and perform under the batons of Joel Revzen, David Robertson, Robert Spano, Martin West, Victor Yampolsky, and many more.
Gingrich completed his Master’s Degree at Carnegie Mellon University and his Bachelor’s Degree at Lawrence University. His primary teachers include Christopher Allen, Jeremy Branson, and Paul Evans. He was a member of the university percussion ensemble at Lawrence that was awarded both a DownBeat Student Music Award for Best Latin Jazz Ensemble Performance and the Percussive Arts Society Award for Best World Music Ensemble.
He has had the honor of teaching privately and institutionally for over a decade. Justin’s most recent position was as Associate Lecturer of Music at the University of Wisconsin – Fox Valley.
