Ginny Karel Womack, violinist, is a native of Evanston, Illinois and is a graduate of the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York. Following her graduation from Eastman, Ginny spent two years playing in the Orquesta Sinfonica Municipal in Caracas, Venezuela, and another two years playing in the Orchestra Regionale Toscana in Florence, Italy. She has been a member of the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra since 1988.
Over the years, Ginny has accompanied such performers as Luciano Pavarotti, Bob Hope, Ray Charles, Rod Stewart, and Barry Manilow, amongst others. In addition to playing in the Lockerbie String Quartet, Trio Bel Suono, and being an active studio musician, Ginny is the founder and leader of INDYKLEZ, Central Indiana’s premiere klezmer band- an ensemble that performs a variety of Eastern European folk music. She also directs the Youth Klezmer Band at Congregation Beth-El Zedeck in Indianapolis, as well as the Bows & Strings Violin Choir, which is comprised of her class of private violin students.
Ginny plays on a violin that was made by her husband, Mark Womack, an award winning violin maker. They have a daughter, Julie, who is an aspiring young singer.
